Dear Harry:
I can't believe it! You are a healing balm to irritated senses, and refreshment to a parched sense of right and wrong.
Harry... Your website if fabulous.
What a joy to hear your voice. It's like those days when we kids stretched out behind the big old radio console and listened to what was going on in the big wide world. That was news! Those were stories. Those were real people made more real in the telling.
I loved the feature on Skeeter. And the one on "Cough up, America". Both first rate. First class. REAL journalism. And big band music playing in the background! Could it get any better? I don't think so. We must let the whole world know about this wonderful source of commentary. You should be the CBS evening news. If they'd hired you, they'd still have a viewing audience!
Thank you, Harry, for directing me to your site. I am stunned. And thrilled. I knew you were a writer from the old school, but I didn't know you were "a knock 'em, sock 'em powerhouse kind of reporter from the days when news was actually newsworthy!
Too bad Gather has gone to the dogs. Gather used to feature really good writers and then suddenly went completely in the opposite direction. Now almost everything is simple-minded and silly. There are still some very good writers who have hesitated to leave because we have made some good friends and strong connections---but what Gather needed to do was to choose a path similar to yours. Uplifting. Classy. Content rich. Thrilling!
As I said in your comments section: "I feel as if I've died and gone to Heaven."
My hat's off to you, sir. I am unconditionally, sold out!

Re: Judge Dawkins
As a new law graduate, I worked with Nolan Dawkins in the City Attorney's office way way back in 1978. Even back then he was a careful, considerate thinker. He welcomed me as a young attorney, offered sound advice, and always had a smile on his face. I'm pleased that he's on the bench, helping direct the fate of others with his kind of fair and generous counsel. Thanks for taking me back to my 'old' life in the city.

Dr. Covert:
I fondly remember you at the Hampton Monitor. Whatever happened to Dr. Warren Taylor? I enjoy your writings.

Harry, you seem to have a talent to select wonderful individuals to write about -- "The Remarkable Skeeter Swift." It is a pleasure to read and re-read your material. Thanks.

Harry,
You need to go on the road. You really are a very effective communicator. Your accent, combined with the power of the pen, create a mix for a real winner. Keep up the good work, and may your day be more productive than you ever dreamed.
Your Good Friend,
Pastor Dan Brockman

Hi, dear Harry,
Memorial Day brings back a flood of memories of my husband's service, particularly when he fought in the Korean War! What a horrible war it was!
I don't want to be presumptuous, with your great schedule of writing for so many publications, but would you care to read an article I wrote, & Charisma published it, about "Three Egert Generations who went to War, & Came Home Alive?" If so, kindly direct me to the correct address.
Thank you!
If you are too busy at this time, I'll certainly understand, & I'll put it on the back burner until after Novermber this year. God bless you & your family & work!
In Christ,
Ruth (Mercer) Egert

Hello, Harry,
I just received a copy of your article in the Commonwealth Conversations for May 2008.
I do not know if you'll remember me or not, but my husband and I met you umpteen years ago, through local friends like Scott Hessek and his wife, and others, in the Tidewater area.
I really enjoyed reading, "The View from Capitol Square." Your statement made me chuckle when I read, "I GOT OFF THE PORCH, TRIED TO MAINTAIN a bit of dignity. I made one more attempt to find out just why this woman had little good to say of me." We need to laugh more, so keep on writing both the serious and the humorous side of things! We all enjoy it immensely!
If Philip were here, he'd gladly join me, too. He is with the Lord whom he loved and served!

Some folks have
The gift of the Gab,
Harry has the gift of the Gabble.
You start out on one thing,
Change gears twice
So it looks like you're playing Scrabble.
But then you bring it all together
And suddenly it all makes sense.
I'm glad you called that kid out at home
His hit didn't make it over the fence!

Scott,
Thanks for your witty poem. I suppose now you’ve enjoyed poetic license. Your delightful comments are always welcome.

Dear Rev. Covert,
I was just reading an article on one website and accidently I did click on a link and was very surprised to discover your website. I like the article about your trip in the Congo, Zaire at that time.
Many blessings.

Harry:
I'm delighted to meet you over the phone. I think that you have come upon an extremely worthy project in the Skeeter Swift story.
'Remember the Titans' was a great team story. The Skeeter Swift story is a wonderful story of a boy with many disadvantages who didn't let anything hold him back. I look forward to your work.

Harry I met you years ago in Australia while you were traveling with Ron Godwin. You took myself and a group of students with you to the reef for a few days. Good to see you are still at it.

Harry,
My children grew up watching Ric Flair and so I particularly liked the article about him. Definitely a showman. So in that context my only comment would have to be Whoooooooo!!!

Dear Mr. Editor,
Three things.
1. How many people in USA know that Scotland Yard is "merely" London's own police force, and NOT a national police force?
2. Such is British bonding at times like this that police cars from Wales were standing guard over Scotland Yeard Hdqtrs this morning, so London bobbies could be out and about.
3. Western leaders have no such power over Arabs leaders, who simply would say, "OK, no more oil". Who will West (read US) get oil from> Chavez? Putin? Fearless neighbor Mexico? What about natural gas? UK's domestic supplies run out in two years ... North Sea will be totally tapped. We have trapped ourselves into this mess because the tree huggers don't want the Alabama Snowshoe Moose to get dislodged from its caves on the Alaskan tundra.

Dr. J

I've enjoyed Harry Covert's writing for a longtime. His piece on Bounty Hunting was funny stuff and his column, I Paid To Vote, really made me think. Keep it up. I hope he writes more daily columns and posts regularly his At Large stories.
